Umbrella Background:
Somalia was in turmoil since 1988, but sledded into a total anarchy and chaos at the end of 1990. The demise of all state institutions followed after the collapse of the last central government. Since that time, horrendous civil war, famine starvation etc. were the order of the day. In the course of this historic movement in Somalia, most alarming and pity conditions in the modern history were observed. In the wake of these conditions a group of educated and determined persons from the cross-section of the Somali Society responding their moral obligation regarding the miserable conditions of the community, met and founded this Umbrella in 2004, in Mogadishu. Towfiiq Umbrella is a local Umbrella non-governmental, non-profit making, non- political Umbrella. It is involved in the humanitarian activities focusing on relief, peace and Development activities. The Umbrella implemented its first project in 2004, and then Towfiiq became an effective legal institution registered in the fist line of the local Umbrellas in the Dhuso-mareb, having a meaningful representation in Galgudud, Mogadishu and Lower Shabelle regions. Towfiiq Umbrella Organizations (TUOS) consists of three potential local NGOs which were working in different area and different sectors in Somalia and they area –
1- Community Concern Somalia (CCS),
2- ANFAC Relief and development Organization.
3- Somali Women Development Organization
(SOWDA)
